The Therapy Support Program is a financial assistance initiative created by The Aliyah Mae Foundation to help bereaved parents access the mental health support they need following the death of a child. This program aims to ease some of that burden by providing up to $1,000 in therapy support, paid directly to a qualified mental health professional of your choice. The program is currently available to parents in Western Australia who have experienced the death of a child aged 0-17 in the last 12 months.

The types of assistance that WA Charity Direct may offer includes support in the form of goods (i.e. equipment, wheelchairs, etc) or services (i.e. payment of medical bills etc) rather than cash.

The Bereavement Assistance Program provides assistance to community members in situations where there are insufficient funds in a deceased person’s estate to pay for a funeral, and when the deceased person’s family are unable to meet the funeral costs.

The Hardship Utility Grant Scheme (HUGS) assists Western Australian residents struggling to pay their utility bills due to financial hardship. To be eligible, customers must first work with their utility provider to establish a payment arrangement. If, after 90 days, a balance of over $300 remains, the provider can apply for a grant on the customer's behalf. If approved, those south of Denham can receive up to $640 per financial year, and those north of or including Denham can receive up to $1,060, covering a maximum of 85% of the outstanding bill.

In certain circumstances, it may be possible to access your superannuation fund to assist in covering funeral costs.

If you have been injured in a motor vehicle crash, you can claim for support when: you were driving a vehicle, and the driver of the other vehicle caused the crash (ie they were at fault) OR you were a passenger, pedestrian or cyclist/scooter rider and the driver of the vehicle was at fault. The vehicle that caused the crash needs to be registered in Western Australia to make a claim. You may not be able to claim if: you were totally at fault a pedestrian, cyclist or scooter rider caused the accident the person at fault was the driver of a vehicle licensed in another state or territory. If the vehicle at fault is unidentified or unlicenced, you may still be able to claim. In the case where you sustained catastrophic injuries because you were at fault or no-one driving was at fault, you can claim under the Catastrophic Injuries Support Scheme.
